New Hope Consolidated Community School District #6 Board of Education met Jan. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The New Hope Board of Education met on January 17, 2023 at 7:30 P.M. in the work room of the school.

President Nate Carter called the meeting to order at 7:31 P.M.

Roll Call: Present: Jason Simpson

Also Present: Julie Harrelson, Superintendent

Jason Simpson made a motion to approve the December 20, 2022 regular meeting minutes with no corrections noted. Second by Ryan Green.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jason Simpson, Derek Smothers, Nate Carter, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jeremy Vaughan

Nay: None          Carried

Superintendent Julie Harrelson presented the Treasurer’s Report and current financial information. Bank balances as of December 31, 2022:

Fairfield National Bank Checking: $1,612,929.14

IPTIP: $963.39

Fairfield National Bank Money Market: $497,790.76

Derek Smothers made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Second by Jeremy Gray.

Nay: None          Carried

Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to pay the bills with no additions or exclusions noted. Second by Jeremy Gray.

Mrs. Harrelson presented the Superintendent’s Report. Spelling bee winners are first place Landon Smith, runner up Kamden Vaughan, and Caleb Vaughan winning the lower grades bee. Landon and Kamden advance to the Wayne County Spelling Bee on February 2nd at 6:00 P.M. We have received notice that we are approved for a $50,000 maintenance grant to be used for new concrete for the bus lane. Brief summary of quarter 2 revenue and expenditure reports show 62% of revenue received and 51% of expenses expended. House bill HB5188 did not come to a vote during the lame duck session. This is the sex education bill saying we must teach sex education kindergarten through 12th grade. We currently have the option to teach this. Over 600 superintendents called and said “no” to the bill.

1. Jason Simpson made a motion to approve board policy updated issue 110. Second by Ryan Green.

Nay: None          Carried

New Business:

1. Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to invest surplus funds in CD at Fairfield National Bank. Second by Jason Simpson.

Voice Vote: Yea: Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jeremy Vaughan, Jason Simpson, Derek Smothers, Nate Carter

Nay: None          Carried

Ryan Green made a motion to enter executive session at 7:45 P.M. for superintendent evaluation, personnel appointment and compensation, and individual student matter. Second by Jason Simpson.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Derek Smothers, Nate Carter, Ryan Green, Jeremy Vaughan

Nay: None          Carried

Jason Simpson made a motion to return to open session at 8:35 P.M. Second by Ryan Green.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jason Simpson, Derek Smothers, Nate Carter, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jeremy Vaughan

Nay: None          Carried

2. Jeremy Vaughan made a motion to renew intergovernmental agreement with Grayville CUSD #1. Second by Jason Simpson.

Voice Vote: Yea: Derek Smothers, Nate Carter, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jeremy Vaughan, Jason Simpson

Nay: None Carried

Jason Simpson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:36 P.M. Second by Jeremy Vaughan.
