Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met Jan. 23.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met for Regular Session on Monday, January 23, 2023 in the gymnasium at Mt. Carmel Elementary School.
President Tim Schuler called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Ryan Peter, Kyle Peach, Susan Wood, Neil Earnest, and Theresa Hocking.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, MCJSH Assistant Principal Amy Duckworth, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, Transportation Director Sharon Thombleson, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Kristi Perry –WCTA, Jamie McCorkle, Jon Miller –Parent, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Hocking and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Superintendent’s Comments
Dr. Bleyer commended the employees that helped at the grade school when the water line broke on the evening of Christmas 2022.
Public Comments
There were no public comments.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees and student discipline”.
At 7:06 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
At 7:27 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. Motion Carried.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
New Business
Abatement Resolution
President Schuler read the following:
RESOLUTION abating the tax heretofore levied for the year 2022 to pay debt service on General Obligation School Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2022, of Community Unit School District Number 348, Wabash County, Illinois.
A motion to approve the resolution as read was made by Peter and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Resolution for the issue of Taxable General Obligation School Bonds
President Schuler read the following:
RESOLUTION providing for the issue of $2,145,500 Taxable General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2023, of Community Unit School District Number 348, Wabash County, Illinois, for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund of said School District, providing for the levy of a direct annual tax sufficient to pay the principal and interest on said bonds and authorizing the sale of said bonds to The First National Bank of Allendale.
A motion to approve the resolution as read was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Peter:

A motion to adjourn was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
