U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) has come out against the indictment of former president Donald Trump by a Manhattan prosecutor.
“This is an abuse of power and an attempt to influence the 2024 election,” Bost said on Twitter.
Bost has previously argued the charges are being used as an obstruction to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
"President Trump’s imminent indictment is a clear reminder that liberals will stop at nothing to derail his candidacy," Bost tweeted. "Biden & the Dems know their woke agenda is a recipe for electoral disaster, so they’re scrambling to stack the deck for 2024. Enough with these vendetta politics."
Trump was indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Bragg’s predecessor refused the case for six years before he took it up. The case surrounds hush money payments to a porn star who alleges she was paid to stay silent to not disclose an affair with Trump. The New York Post opined the case “just convinces America that our legal system is biased and politicized.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he will fight extradition efforts to remove Trump from his Florida home. “The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis - who is gearing up to challenge Trump in the presidential primary – said on Twitter. “It is un-American. DeSantis' tweet further reads, "The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.” He said his state “will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda.”
Bost previously noted he is “a proud ally in President Trump’s fight to put America First” and was endorsed by Trump. “Congressman Mike Bost is a terrific Representative for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District,” Trump said before the 2022 election.
