Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met July 17.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met for Regular Session on Monday, July 17, 2023 in Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.
President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Jamie McCorkle, Susan Wood, Gregg Wilcox, Janice Alka, and Kyle Peach..
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, MCHS Assistant Principal Amy Duckworth, Director of Transportation Sharon Thombleson, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Yvette Henager –WCTA, Laura Taylor-Social Worker, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.
At 7:01 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Wood. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
At 7:57 p.m., a motion to return to open session was made by Wood and seconded by Peach. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by McCorkle. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Reports – Laura Taylor
Ms. Taylor spoke to the Board concerning a new law regarding Medicaid for students. The new law will enable more children to be covered. She wanted board approval to proceed with this new program.
Also, she asked the board to approve a new pet therapy program.
A motion to approve the Medicaid program was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Superintendent’s Comments
Dr. Bleyer thanked the WCTA negotiating committee for finalizing the new contract. He also noted that the commemorative bricks have been ordered. Dr. Bleyer said the Stadium Phase 2 project would not be complete for the first football game but should be completed before the end of the football season.

2023-2024 Food Bids
Hocking motioned to approve the 23-24 food bid results. The motion was seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
2023-2024 Schedule of Fees
A motion to approve the 2023-2024 Schedule of Fees was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Student Handbooks
Approved by the Board of Education on August 21, 2023
A motion was made by Peach to accept all changes to the student handbooks. The motion was seconded by Wood. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
WCTA Contract
Upon the recommendation of the Board Negotiation Committee, a motion to approve the new four (4) year contract with the WCTA was made by Hocking and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Employment of Personnel
A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Wood:
