State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) expressed his pride and excitement as he welcomed officials from Southern Illinois University (SIU) to the state capitol in Springfield on Wednesday. The purpose of their visit was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SIU School of Law and highlight the passage of HR 297, a resolution congratulating the law school on its milestone.

Windhorst, an alum of SIU School of Law, expressed his gratitude towards the university for changing the lives of its students and the positive impact it has on the region. He stated, "I am proud to welcome my law school alma mater to the people's House to celebrate 50 years of excellence and service."

As part of their "Saluki Takeover" promotional effort, SIU officials have been touring the capitol and meeting with legislators and media outlets during the Fall 2023 Veto Session. The visit to the state capitol is aimed at highlighting all things Southern Illinois University to lawmakers.

During their visit, Rep. Windhorst welcomed Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations & CEO Matt Kupec, SIU School of Law Dean Camille Davidson, Director of Career Services Casey Parker, Director of External Relations Carly Holtkamp, and Director of Development Kate Hanson to House Republican Leader Tony McCombie's office for a photograph. They were also recognized in the House Gallery.

HR 297, which was passed previously, recognizes the significant contributions of SIU School of Law over the past 50 years. The resolution emphasizes the various programs and services offered by the law school, including specializations in business and transactional law, health law, intellectual property, international and comparative law, litigation and dispute resolution, and public interest law. It also highlights the legal assistance provided to senior citizens, victims of domestic violence, juveniles involved in the justice system, and veterans and their families.

SIU School of Law has also been praised for its internship and externship opportunities, which serve both its students and the public greater good. The law school has produced numerous legal minds who have gone on to serve the citizens of Illinois and the United States in elected office.

In addition to its academic offerings, SIU School of Law provides students with the opportunity to join over 20 student organizations, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among its student body.

The law school is located on the Carbondale campus and is housed in the Lesar Law Building, named after its first dean, Hiram H. Lesar. Known for its outstanding reputation, SIU School of Law is recognized as an institution that provides a collaborative and tight-knit community for its students to thrive through relationship building and shared experiences.

The resolution concludes by extending warm wishes to the students, faculty, staff, and administration of SIU School of Law. It acknowledges their contributions not only to their students and the greater Southern Illinois region but also to the state, the nation, and the world.

As the celebration of SIU School of Law's 50th anniversary continues, the resolution will be presented to the law school as a token of recognition and appreciation for their commitment to excellence and service over the past five decades.
