Congressional District 12 candidate, Darren Bailey, took to Facebook to voice his concerns about the surging gas prices in the United States.
Bailey emphasized the need for President Donald Trump’s return and a gas tax cut, attributing the skyrocketing costs to President Joe Biden’s energy policies and calling for a significant change in Washington.
"We don’t need gas pump publicity stunts; we need President Trump back, and we need a gas tax cut. It’s time to fire Joe Biden, get rid of his disastrous energy policies, clean house in Washington, put America First, and get our country back on track," said Bailey.
Gas prices in the United States have surged past $5.00 per gallon, marking a more than twofold increase from the $2.39 average on President Biden’s first day in office. These elevated prices come amid record highs, and there are predictions that gas costs may exceed $6 per gallon by August.
“This comes after gas prices hit record highs and amid predictions gas prices will surpass $6 per gallon by August,” the House Ways and Means Committee said in a press release. "While President Biden has attempted to shift blame for rising gas prices onto Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as ‘Putin’s Price Hike,’ some in the Administration are touting higher energy costs as reason to ‘accelerate’ Democrats’ ‘Green New Deal’ agenda."'
According to the New York Post, the significant increase has fueled criticism from Republicans and other critics who blame the Biden administration’s energy policies for adding to economic hardships, especially as they strive to address inflation ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
On July 4, Bailey announced his candidacy for Congress in Southern Illinois’ 12th District, challenging incumbent Congressman Mike Bost (R-IL) in the primary.
Known for his conservative politics and endorsement by Trump, he emphasized his commitment to opposing “woke nonsense” and fighting for Southern Illinois’ values and freedoms. The race is expected to be closely watched, with both candidates being Trump supporters in a district that voted for Trump in the 2020 and 2016 elections.
