State Senator Dale Fowler has announced that nearly $35,000 in state-sponsored public school library grants have been approved for library programs in the 59th Senate District. The grants, which are awarded once every fiscal year, aim to support students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade by providing resources and services such as library books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, technology, and programs.
Senator Fowler emphasized the importance of libraries in the everyday lives of the residents across the 59th District. He stated, "Whether it's the technology furnished or the research needed, it's great to see 33 different grants awarded to schools across my district so we can better serve the community and surrounding areas we live in."
The libraries in the 59th Senate District that will receive funds include Anna Jonesboro CHSD 81, Buncombe Consolidated School District 43, Cairo School District 1, Carbondale CHSD 165, Carbondale ESD 95, Giant City CCSD 130, Unity Point School District 140, Carrier Mills-Stonefort CUSD 2, Carterville CUSD 5, Cobden Unit School District 17, DeSoto CSD 86, Dongola CUSD 66, Elverado CUSD 196, Pope County CUSD 1, Goreville School District 1, Harrisburg CUSD 3, Herrin CUSD 4, Johnston City CUD 1, Gallatin County School District 7, Crab Orchard CCU 3, Marion CUSD 2, Massac Unit School District 1, Meridian CUSD 101, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield CUSD 3, Egyptian CUSD 5, Thompsonville CUSD 174, New Simpson Hill School District 32, Century CUSD 100, Vienna Public School District 55, Vienna Township HSD 13-3, Frankfort CUSD 168, Shawnee CUSD 84, and Zeigler-Royalton School District 188.
The Library Grant program is overseen by the Illinois Secretary of State's office.
