Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met Oct. 24.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

On October 24, 2023, at 6:01 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

Roll Call

Members Present: Adina Hoover, Angela Steketee, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover

Whitney Rogers arrived at 6:02 p.m.

Members absent: Carlos Hevia and Jessica Radogno

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann, Business Manager, Anthony Ruelli, the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance Adina Hoover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, student discipline, and potential litigation.

Ayes: Conover, Marren, Steketee, Rogers, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carries.

The Board entered closed session at 6:02 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:15 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

October 10, 2023

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the minutes of the October 10, 2023, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Conover, Marren, Steketee, Rogers, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

October 10, 2023-Closed Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the October 10, 2023, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Nays: None

CONSENT AGENDA

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr, Hevia, to approve the consent agenda as presented:

1. Personnel Recommendations

2. Approval of October 2023 Expenditure Report

3. Ratification of SEptember 2023 Regular Payroll

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION

CAPAOW Club Presentation

Hailey Butusov and Lana Phung, Co-Presidents of CAPAOW Club at Westmont High School, presented to the Board information regarding a conference they will be hosting in March. The Asian Student Conference for Education, Networking and Development, (ASCEND), would host students from other districts to come together to celebrate culture, create connections and engage curiosity. Currently the CAPAOW Club is fundraising for the event.

CUSD 201 Summative Designation Review

Dr. Carla Braun, has been working closely with all the buildings reviewing their baseline iReady and SAT data. Dr Braun discussed the different components of the state report card and how each school is projected to do. The official results will be out on October 30, 2023. One item all the schools are working on is chronic absenteeism.

2024-2025 Calendar

The calendar committee has been working on the 2024-2025 calendar. The committee consists of administrators, teachers, and parents. The committee tonight is presenting two options. The Board will be voting at the next meeting on the calendar they are agreeing to.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Communication

Superintendent Baldermann would like to thank Dr. Braun and everyone working on the Action Plans. He would also like to remind everyone to read 20 minutes a day.

BOARD REPORTS

Ms. Conover wanted to give a shout out to the great trips Mr. Landreth is hosting and that were approved during the consent agenda.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Angela Steketee announced the Illinois Reads flier is now published.
