Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met Dec. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, December 18, 2023 in Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Gregg Wilcox, Jamie McCorkle, and Janice Alka. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andy Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Bonnie Griggs, Amanda Boze, Jared Boze, Kristenia Sloss, Nathaniel Garrison, Emma Etheridge, Noah Alka, Ryan Groah, Temperance Gawthorp, Lana Heinrich, Lilly Majors, Jaylynn Bigel, Kyndall Boze, Natalie Roberts, Jayla Griggs, Jaden Heinrich, Matthias Garrison, Ailee Seals, Kim Mandrell –Teacher, Macy Mandrell, Blayne Sisson, Andrew Gillihan, Connor Shelby, Asher Kight, Darlene Underwood –Treasurer, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

Visitors – Kim Mandrell and the Madrigal Singers

A group of the Madrigal performers sang a song from their recent performance.

Reports –Michael Brewer and the MCHS Football Team

Coach Brewer talked about the football team’s successful season. Asher Kight, Connor Shelby, Blayne Sisson, and Andrew Gillihan were present to represent the team.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer recognized district employee Bea Morgan who recently passed away. He commented on her dedication and great work ethic. Dr. Bleyer noted she will be greatly missed. He also commented that the stadium renovation was near completion.

Kemper CPA Group 2022-2023 Audit Findings

Michelle Smith from Kemper CPA Group presented the 2022-2023 audit findings. She commented there were no findings for the year.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.

At 7:21 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by McCorkle and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

At 7:32 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

New Business

Tax Levy 2023 Payable in 2024

A motion to approve the 2023 Tax Levy payable in 2024 was made by Hocking and seconded by McCorkle. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

2022-2023 Audit

A motion to approve the 2022-2023 audit as presented was made by Alka and seconded by Wilcox. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

Bonding Threshold for Treasurer

A motion to approve the bonding threshold to be set at 10% per Dr. Bleyer’s recommendation was made by McCorkle and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

Substitute Pay Increase

A motion to approve the substitute pay increase as recommended by Dr. Bleyer was made by Alka and seconded by McCorkle. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Susan Wood and Kyle Peach were absent.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Wilcox and seconded by Alka:
