Former Illinois State Senator, Kyle McCarter, has expressed his support for State Representative Blaine Wilhour amidst an anti-Wilhour campaign promoted by Illinois teacher’s unions.
McCarter's stance was clear as he stated, "I’m friends with both men," referring to Wilhour and his opponent Matt Hall. However, he quickly added, "Unfortunately Matt’s on the wrong side in this race." He went on to criticize Hall's union loyalty as an Illinois prison guard, saying it is being exploited by the teachers' union to oppose Wilhour. He concluded with a call to action: "Vote Wilhour."
A video produced by Americans for Matt Hall, which represents the campaign of Wilhour’s adversary in the Republican primary, accused Wilhour of not acting in the best interest of Illinois school children. The video was funded by the Illinois Education Association (IEA), one of Hall’s largest campaign supporters. It claimed that Wilhour voted in favor of two bills: one allowing convicted minors to be paroled and another permitting illegal aliens to become police officers.
In response to these allegations, Wilhour clarified that he had voted against both bills mentioned in the video.
Rep. Blaine Wilhour has been a lifelong resident of Illinois and a graduate of St. Elmo High School. His service record includes time with the Illinois Army National Guard and a term on the Fayette County Board. In addition to his political career, he is a managing partner in a post-frame construction company started with his father and four brothers.
