Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met May 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, May 20, 2024 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Gregg Wilcox, Jamie McCorkle, Janice Alka, Susan Wood and Kyle Peach.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, Transportation Director Sharon Thombleson, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Kristi Perry –WCTA, Rob Kennard–Parent, Shamber Weiss-Parent, Ashley, Swanson-Parent, Sarah Dougherty –Teacher, Sarah McCorkle–Speaker, Madison Stevens– Speaker, Isabella Andrews –Speaker, Chris McCorkle –Parent, Gayle Kieffer-Grandparent, Aaron Croft –Test Coordinator, Yvette Henager –WCTA, Gregg Henager –Citizen, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Wood and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer thanked the board members for their attendance at graduation. He also said the signage for the roof of Legend’s Fieldhouse would be installed this week.

Reports –Aaron Croft

Mr. Croft reported on the results of the SAT and PSAT scores compared to last school year. He said the scores across the board were encouraging for students and teachers.

Visitors

CEO participants Sarah McCorkle, Bella Andrews, and Madison Stevens spoke about their positive experiences during their time in the CEO class.

Science Fair participants Ellie Couch, Miranda Kennard, Wyatt Rooney presented their projects to the board. Teacher Sarah Dougherty also brought the board up to date on changes that had been implemented.

Public Comments

There were no comments.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.

At 7:27 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by McCorkle and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

At 8:26 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

New Business

Amended 2023-2024 Budget

Dr. Bleyer noted that the 23-24 budget would be displayed for a month at the district office.

Duel Credit Agreement with IECC

Hocking motioned to approve the agreement with IECC. The motion was seconded by Wood. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Alka and seconded by McCorkle:
