Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met June 17.

Amended Budget Hearing

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Special Session on Monday, June 17, 2024 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the hearing to order at 6:45 p.m.

Schuler turned the meeting over to Superintendent Bleyer who gave a presentation regarding the amended budget highlights for the 2023-2024 school year.

President Schuler asked if anyone had any questions regarding the amended budget. There were no questions.

Regular Meeting

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Jamie McCorkle, Susan Wood, Gregg Wilcox, Janice Alka, and Kyle Peach..

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Yvette Henager –Teacher, Beau Belt –Citizen, Shelly Harris –Parent, Tracie Guard –Spanish Teacher, Danielle Trapp –Parent, Renee Thread – Citizen, Ann James –Teacher, David James –Citizen, Kristi Perry –WCTA, Trish Kemper –Citizen, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by McCorkle. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer noted that the logo on Legends Fieldhouse was being finished and work on the bluff was in process.

Public Comments

-Beau Belt spoke to the board regarding his concerns with the administration at the junior high school.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.

At 7:22 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by McCorkle and seconded by Hocking. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

At 8:19 p.m., a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

New Business

Amended 2023-2024 Budget

Hocking motioned to approve the 2023-2024 amended budget. The motion was seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

2024-2025 Student Handbook Revisions

McCorkle motioned to approve the 2024-2025 Student Handbook Revisions. The motion was seconded by Wood. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

2024-2025 Meeting Dates and Times

A motion to approve the 2024-2025 Board of Education Meeting Dates and Times was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Alka and seconded by Peach:

Reagan Strockbine -MCES Physical Education Asst starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

CERTIFIED

Demi Beuligmann -K through 6th Music Teacher starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

Madison Merritt -MCJH Special Education Teacher starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

NON-CERTIFIED

Dawn Hedge -MCES P/T Kitchen Worker starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

Chris Cunningham -Bus Driver for the Mesa Lake Route Position starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
