With the general election approaching, Illinois residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting process and registration requirements. Voting serves as a crucial method for citizens to express their views in government.

To be eligible to vote in Illinois, individuals must meet the following criteria:

- Be a U.S. citizen

- Reside in their election precinct for at least 30 days prior to Election Day

- Be at least 18 years old by the date of the general election

Individuals currently serving a sentence in a penal institution are not permitted to vote, and voters may only claim the right to vote in one location.

Residents can check their registration status or register to vote by visiting the Illinois Online Voter Registration Application Website.
