New Hope Consolidated Community School District #6 Board of Education met Aug. 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The New Hope Board of Education met on August 20, 2024 at 7:00 P.M. in the work room of the school.

Vice-President Jason Simpson called the meeting to order at 7:01 P.M.

Also Present: Britany Pope, Superintendent

Tom Barton made a motion to approve the consent agenda containing approval of July 16, 2024 regular meeting minutes, acceptance of the treasurer’s report as of July 31, 2024, approval to pay bills, and approval to destroy closed session audio recordings older than 18 months.Second by Ryan Green.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Tom Barton, Ryan Green

Nay: None Carried

Treasurer’s Report and current financial information. Bank balances as of July 31, 2024:

Fairfield National Bank Checking: $1,307,882.88

IPTIP: $1,045.92

Fairfield National Bank Money Market: $484,516.53

Fairfield National Bank CD: $520,199.99

Jeremy Gray arrived at 7:02 P.M.

Mrs. Pope presented the Superintendent’s Report: FOIA request concerning vendor contracts over $1,000. Open house was well attended. Many parents expressed their gratefulness for the supplies provided by the school. Enrollment is currently at 201, up from the past several years. There were 85 students who qualified for the summer A/R and IXL reward party. They will be going to Walther’s in Evansville tomorrow. The HVAC building project is mostly completed. There are a few minor things from their punch list still needing done. The stage curtain is scheduled to ship on September 13 th and should be here and installed well before basketball season. The zip line quoted for Mrs. Harrelson did not include installation. QNS wiring and networking project has been completed. A CAT-2 grant will reimburse us approximately $18,000 of the $70,000 project. Petitions for school board member are available and circulation began today. Those going off of the board this year are Jason Simpson, Jeremy Gray, Jeremy Vaughan, and Tom Barton. Ms. Richardson entered the Simple Modern contest and won. Simple Modern shipped 1500 water bottles for students and 150 tumblers for staff. The water bottles have been distributed to Jasper, Geff, Fairfield 112, and New Hope staff and students. The remaining water bottles were given to North Wayne and Wayne City school districts. New Hope is paying Julie Shreve to have students and staff names lasered on the side of their bottles.

New Business:

1. Ryan Green made a motion to accept Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits report.Second by Brandon Fry.

Nay: None Carried

Dan Devous made a motion to enter executive session at 7:13 P.M. for student enrollment and transportation, and personnel hiring and compensation. Second by Brandon Fry.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Tom Barton, Ryan Green

Nay: None Carried

Dan Devous made a motion to return to open session at 8:27 P.M. Second by Tom Barton.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Tom Barton, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray

Nay: None Carried

2. Ryan Green made a motion to hire Afton Barton as paraprofessional. Second by Dan Devous.

Voice Vote: Yea: Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson

Nay: None

Abstain: Tom Barton Carried

3. Dan Devous made a motion to hire Debbie Webb as part-time teacher for 2024-2025. Second by Brandon Fry.

Voice Vote: Yea: Brandon Fry, Tom Barton, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Dan Devous

Nay: None Carried

4. Ryan Green made a motion to hire Shawna Weber as long-term sub for 2024-2025. Second by Tom Barton.

Voice Vote: Yea: Tom Barton, Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry

Nay: None Carried

5. Dan Devous made a motion to hire Melissa Curd for tutoring for 2024-2025. Second by Brandon Fry.

Voice Vote: Yea: Ryan Green, Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Tom Barton

Nay: None Carried

6. Tom Barton made a motion to accept Kevin Greathouse’s intent to retire letter. Second by Ryan Green.

Voice Vote: Yea: Jeremy Gray, Jason Simpson, Dan Devous, Brandon Fry, Tom Barton, Ryan Green

Nay: None Carried

7. Item failed when no motion was made towards enrollment of nonpublic school student for band and after-school transportation.

Dan Devous made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:33 P.M. Second by Ryan Green.

Nay: None Carried
