Jasper Community Consolidated School District #17 Board of Education met Aug. 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Jasper School Board of Education was called to order by Board President Derek Demaret and Jon Lafikes taking the minutes, on August 22 at 6:00 p.m. with following board members present:

Board Members Present: Derek Demaret, Justin Atwood, Jon Lafikes, Caitlin Glisson, Beth Titzer (6:04) & Josh Zurliene (6:10)

Board Members Absent: Jarad Blanton

The consent agenda, which includes minutes of previous regular board meeting, executive session and destruction of closed session minutes, treasurer’s report, approval of monthly bills and payroll, were then approved on a motion by Justin Atwood and seconded by Caitlin Glisson. The votes were as follows:

Justin Atwood – yes       Caitlin Glisson –yes

Jarad Blanton- absent

A motion was made by Jon Lafikes and seconded by Justin Atwood to approve FY25 tentative budget as presented and to hold budget hearing on 9/24/2024 @ 5:45 pm. The votes were as follows:

Beth Titzer – yes            Josh Zurliene – yes

Justin Atwood – yes       Caitlin Glisson –yes

Jarad Blanton- absent

A motion was made by Beth Titzer and seconded by Josh Zurliene to approve FY25 Risk Management Plan as presented. The votes were as follows:

Beth Titzer – yes            Josh Zurliene – yes

Justin Atwood – yes       Caitlin Glisson –yes

A motion was made by Caitlin Glisson and seconded by Justin Atwood to employ Mackenzie Stewart as assistant Softball Coach for the 2024-2025 school year pending results of background/EHR check. The votes were as follows:

Justin Atwood – yes       Caitlin Glisson –yes

A motion was made by Caitlin Glisson and seconded by Josh Zurliene to employ Kellene Kinney as Long Term Substitute Music Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year with salary/benefits of 13 sick days and beginning teacher pay beginning 9/3/2024. She will receive sub pay for August. The votes were as follows.

A motion was made by Beth Titzer and seconded by Justin Atwood to approve Andrew Diesel as volunteer assistant baseball coach. The votes were as follows:

A motion was made by Justin Atwood and seconded by Caitlin Glisson to approve non-certified employee compensation for FY25 as presented. The votes were as follows:

A motion was made by Josh Zurliene and seconded by Jon Lafikes to approve Press Policy Updates, Issue 115, June 2024 as presented. The votes were as follows:

A motion was made by Caitlin Glisson and seconded by Josh Zurliene to grant unpaid maternity leave to Katelyn Rodgers from October 1 through December 20, 2024. The votes were as follows:

A motion was made by Derek Demaret and seconded by Caitlin Glisson to approve moving into executive closed session at 6:50 p.m. in accordance with school board policy 2:220-E2 items #1, the appointment, employment compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District , /5 ILCS 120/2C(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057; 5 ILCS 120/2C, as amended by P.A. 93-0057; #2 Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees .5 ILCS 120/2C(2); #9 Student disciplinary cases .5ILCS 120/2C (9). The votes were as follows:

A motion was made by Derek Demaret and seconded by Beth Titzer to approve moving out of executive closed session at 7:13 p.m. in accordance with school board policy. The votes were as follows:
