City of Mount Carmel City Council met Oct. 14.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Mayor Judge brought the City Council meeting to order.
Present on Roll Call: Mayor Joe Judge Commissioners – Tom Meeks, Tyson Meador, Susan Zimmerman
Also Present: City Administrative Assistant Ryan Turner
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mayor Judge requested a motion to approve the council meeting minutes held on September 30, 2024.
Commissioner Meador motioned, and Commissioner Meeks seconded, to approve the meeting minutes held on October 14, 2024. All present voted by roll call. Commissioners Meeks, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.
MAYOR’S COMMENTS
Mayor Judge reported that the river camps auction will be held online with Mobley and Grant from October 22 to October 29. There are 14 river camps, 2 of which do not have river access and a lot on Cherry Street that will be auctioned.
COMMISSIONER REPORTS:
COMMISSIONER TYSON MEADOR – STREETS, CEMETERIES AND PARKS
Commissioner Meador reported that the street department has been busy pouring an alley, running the street sweeper, replacing sidewalks, and cutting down trees.
COMMISSIONER ERIC IKEMIRE – FINANCE AND SENIOR CITIZENS
Commissioner Ikemire is absent.
COMMISSIONER TOM MEEKS – WATER AND SEWER
Commissioner Meeks reported that he took a tour of the water plant today. The department is fixing a few minor problems and testing things out.
Commissioner Meeks reported that a few sewer backups were responded to and that the department has now completed flushing the hydrants.
COMMISSIONER SUSAN ZIMMERMAN – FIRE, HEALTH & SAFETY, GARBAGE, CITY HALL AND CIVIL DEFENSE
Commissioner Zimmerman reported that the Fire Safety Week went well. Over the past two weeks, the fire department has had nine runs, nine public relations events, and three fire drills.
Commissioner Zimmerman reported that the big trash pickup went well. She thanked the community for their cooperation with this.
CITY ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – RYAN TURNER
City Administrative Assistant Ryan Turner – no report.
CITY ATTORNEY – DEREK MCCULLOUGH
City Attorney McCullough reported that the city had several houses we demolished over the past year. We have now secured leans on these, and we are beginning the foreclosure process.
AIRPORT MANAGER – LUIS GARCIA
Airport Manager Garica reported he has repaired a couple of the runway lights at the airport. He has been continuing general maintenance, mowing, and making sure things are ready for this winter.
POLICE CHIEF – MIKE MCWILLIAMS
Police Chief McWilliams reported an officer-involved shooting last Thursday night. The Illinois State Police were immediately contacted to conduct an investigation, and he is awaiting the results of their investigation. The officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol, following the incident while it is being investigated. The investigation will go to the State’s Attorney and the Attorney General. Chief McWilliams offers his prayers and condolences to all involved.
FIRE CHIEF – FRANCIS SPETH
Fire Chief Speth is absent.
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR – MIKE GIDCUMB
Public Works Director Gidcumb reported his department is preparing for leaf season and sidewalk projects.
WABASH COUNTY E.M.A.
Wabash County E.M.A. Representative Rhonda Banks is absent.
BUSINESS MOTIONS
Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Meeks seconded, to approve the consent agenda. All present voted by roll call. Commissioners Meeks, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.
Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Meador seconded, to enter into an executive meeting at 4:07 p.m. All present voted by roll call. Commissioners Meeks, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.
Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Meador seconded, to move from the executive session to the regular session at 4:39 pm. All present voted Aye by voice vote.
Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Meeks seconded, to adjourn the meeting today. All present voted Aye by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm.
