FOIA Request to City of McLeansboro Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SE Illinois News have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140).
The request, sent electronically to the city clerk's office, specifically asks for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The requested details include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the work is being done, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we have also asked for a list of all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. The same fields as mentioned above are requested for these active permits.
We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we have requested a fee waiver.
