Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met Oct. 22.

CALL TO ORDER

On October 22, 2024 at 6:31 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

Roll Call

Members Present: Adina Hoover, Carlos Hevia, Angela Steketee, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover Members Absent: Whitney Rogers, Jessica Radogno

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann, Business Manager, Anthony Ruelli, the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance

President Hoover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, student discipline and sale or lease of real property.

Ayes: Conover, Marren, Hevia, Steketee, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 6:32 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:45 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

October 8, 2024

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve the minutes of the October 8, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Conover, Marren, Hevia, Steketee, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the October 8, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Conover, Marren, Hevia, Steketee, Hoover

Nays: None Motion Carried.

CONSENT AGENDA

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve the consent agenda as presented:

1. Personnel Recommendations:

● Danielle Tovo, Teaching Assistant

2. Approval of October 2024 Expenditure Report

3. Ratification of the September 2024 Payroll

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION

CUSD 201 Summative Designation Review

Dr. Carla Braun gave a presentation on the preliminary data of the summative evaluations of the schools. The official data will be available on October 30, 2024 by ISBE. Her presentation included information on what are the summative indicators and how they are calculated. Miller this past school year was rated Commendable but did increase their overall index score by 12.54. Manning, WJHS and WHS are all Exemplary. WJHS had the largest increase in their overall index score by 30.88. This is the best performance in the District’s history.

2025-2026 Calendar

The Calendar Committee, composed of administrators, staff and parents, have been meeting to discuss the calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. They are sharing a list of pro’s and con’s of the different start date options for the 2025-2026 school year. The board would like to see more supporting information in regards to the start and end dates and the impact on instructional outcomes. They would also like to see more information on the dates with the school testing.

IASB Resolutions

Every year at the Joint Annual Conference, the Board sends a delegate to vote on proposed legislation. The CUSD 201 Board Delegate is Carlos Hevia. He will be attending the meeting on November 23, 2024.

Joint Annual Conference Sessions

Some CUSD 201 Board members will be attending the Joint Annual Conference starting November 21, 2024. The Board will be discussing ahead of time what sessions they are going to be attending.

ACTION ITEMS

1. Renewal of Consultant for Administrator and Teacher Development

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the renewal of contract with Jeanne Spiller, Consultant for administrator and teacher development (grant funded), as presented.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Communication

In honor of Principals’ Week, Superintendent Baldermann would like to congratulate Dr. Weck, Ms. Quattrone, Ms Pietrzak, Ms. Sinovich, and Ms. Torrisi for a job well done. They have an important job in the district leading our schools.
