Village of Smithton Committee of a Whole met Oct. 29.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Trustee Elbe called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm at Village Hall. Trustees Elbe, Mourey, Hopkins and Reyling were in attendance. Chris Davis representing Smithton Athletic Association and the Storm organization was also in attendance.
Davis stated that they are going to be having some major turnover with the SAA Board, and they are going to have a hard time maintaining the level of service that they’ve given in the past years. As of August 1, 2025, Chris Davis will be stepping down as well as 2 other families. Davis maintains the fields as well as manages the people doing the fields. The person running the concessions will also be stepping down. This work currently being done will fall on the Village. Davis stated that the field crew and concessions staff for next summer are already set. SAA will still be able to run the league and manage the calendar. The Village will need to handle the fields and concessions as of August 1, 2025.
Trustee Hopkins asked what the SAA is going to do with all their equipment? Davis said it’s still up for discussion. Trustee Elbe stated that years ago there was a tractor that was donated to the SAA from the Village.
Davis stated that the supplies for the fields get ordered from FS and they are delivered to the shed at the Park. Davis said they spend about $800 a year on chalk and diamond dry. SAA is charging $25 to get the field ready for a game for the Storm organization. Trustee Reyling stated that if the Village is going to start doing maintenance, then the Village will need to start charging for the use of the diamonds. Paying a fee for practices or games was mentioned. Rolling the fee into the registration for players was suggested.
The SAA will be purchasing safety netting, and the Village will be providing poles. They will work together to get the netting installed.
Davis stated that there are 40 teams over 5 organizations (SAA, School, Storm, Bluejays, Bandits Jr and Sr Legion).
A motion was made by Trustee Elbe and seconded by Trustee Mourey to adjourn the meeting at 5:45 pm. All Trustees were in favor.
