Galatia Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Nov. 19.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The regular meeting of the Galatia Community Unit School District No. 1 Board was held in the boardroom at the Annex. Roll call was taken, and those present were Tim Pribble, Bryan McCabe, B.J. Pigg, Holly Murphy, Amy Richey, and Leslie Ferrell. Elaine Jackson was absent. Six (6) members present and one (1) member absent. Board President, Tim Pribble, called the meeting to order at 6:48 p.m. Also present: Superintendent, Shain Crank, HS Principal, Ashley Launius, and Recording Secretary, Michele Hankins.
President Pribble led the Board and attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
VISITORS:
There were no visitors.
ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO AGENDA:
There were no additions/deletions to the agenda.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
1. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to enter Executive Session at 6:49 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; matters of student discipline or review executive session minutes. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Ferrell-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, and Pigg-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
2. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to end Executive Session at 7:06 p.m. Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Ferrell-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
3. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to approve the Executive Session minutes. Murphy-aye, Ferrell-aye, Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Resignation
4. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Pigg to accept Alisha Harmon's resignation as elementary P.E. substitute teacher effective November 28, 2024. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Ferrell-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

5. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to employ Jeffery Bennett as the elementary physical education teacher for the remainder of the 2024/2025 school year, pending background check and per salary schedule. McCabe-aye, Ferrell-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Assistant Junior High Boys Basketball Coach
6. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Murphy to approve Christopher Littler as assistant junior high boys' basketball coach for the remainder of the 2024/2025 school year. Ferrell-aye, Richey-aye, Pribble-aye Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

7. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Murphy to approve A.J. Hankins as assistant high boys' baseball coach for the 2024/2025 school year, pending background check. Ferrell-aye, Richey-aye, Pribble-aye Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.

PRINCIPAL REPORT:
The haunted house fundraiser went very well.
Mrs. Douglass, guidance counselor support specialist, continues to take students to career fairs and colleges. She will also be hosting a FAFSA night in the near future.
Mrs. Neumann, school nurse, and the CNA students will be hosting a blood drive November 26th. Students in the CNA class will receive scholarship money for helping run the blood drive.
The local Brain Games will start in December.
Mrs. Launius left the meeting at 7:13 p.m.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT:
Egyptian Mental Health: We have a new parent education program through the Egyptian Health Department. The program will allow parents to have a coach if needed, an expansive library of videos and the ability to ask questions to a therapist a couple of times a month. This does not cost us anything and is run by the Egyptian Health Department.
Building Projects: The smaller projects are moving along. The bathroom partitions are installed in the bathrooms. The fire proof doors are still delayed due to the manufacturer. The new roof for the portable building is still on the schedule, but no tentative date has been set.

TRANSPORTATION: All buses are in running order.

ATHLETICS:
Cross Country: Congratulations to Bailey Downing! Bailey advanced from the Regional meet to the IHSA Sectional meet and finished 39th overall.
JH Girls Basketball: Congratulations to Mackenzie Graham, she earned all-tournament honors at the New Simpson Hill tournament.
JH Boys Basketball: The junior high boys won the Galatia Tip-Off varsity tournament beating Cobden in the championship game. Congratulations to Ryne Foster, Kalyan Townsend, and Bryce Jenkins earned all- tournament honors.
OLD BUSINESS:
There was no old business.

9. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to approve the regular meeting minutes of October 22, 2024. Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Ferrell-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
10. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to approve the bills and payroll as presented. Pigg-aye, Ferrell-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
11. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to approve the treasurer's report and co-mingled account as presented. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, Ferrell-aye, Pribble-aye, and Richey-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Tax Levy
The audited FY24 account balance of $6,099,530.25 was reported to the board. The aggregate rate change stayed under 5%.
12. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to approve the 2024 Tax Levy as presented. Ferrell-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Working Cash Fund Interfund Resolution
13. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to approve a resolution to transfer $62,000.00 from the working cash fund to the bonds & interest fund to cover the bond/interest payment of $240,196.25 due December 1st, 2024. Funds are to be paid back through the collection of real estate taxes. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Ferrell-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Press Plus Issue 117 Reading
14. A motion was made by Richey and seconded by McCabe to approve the Press Plus Issue 117 reading. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Ferrell-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Seniority Roster
15. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to approve the 2024/2025 seniority report. Ferrell- aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Field Trip
16. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Ferrell to approve the out of state field trip for Pre-K to go to Deep Blue, Evansville, IN., November 21st, 2024. Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Ferrell-aye, and Pribble-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
Snow Plow
17. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by McCabe to approve a tractor snow plow attachment from Steve Johnson not to exceed $3,500.00 Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Ferrell-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Six (6) ayes, motion carried.
