On January 28, 2025, we at SE Illinois News submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Wayne City Community Unit School District 100. The request pertains to obtaining copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain specific keywords.
The sought-after records include any communications containing the terms “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. As a news organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate coverage of local governmental affairs, our aim is to gain insight into discussions or decisions related to these topics within the school district.
We believe that access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news, we have requested a fee waiver for this information.
According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the average administrative salary stood at $116,908. Furthermore, the report revealed that the average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Notably, over half - approximately 58% - of teachers in Illinois possess a master's degree or higher.
