State Representative Patrick Windhorst of Metropolis, Illinois, announced his committee assignments for the 104th General Assembly. Windhorst will continue serving as the Illinois House Republican Floor Leader. He emphasized his commitment to addressing ethical reforms and law enforcement support.

"I am honored to serve as the Illinois House Republican Floor Leader and look forward to leading the debate on crucial legislation," stated Rep. Windhorst. He added that he would focus on combating corruption and supporting victims' rights.

Windhorst's committee roles include being the Republican Spokesperson for Ethics & Elections, Gun Violence Prevention, Judiciary – Criminal Law, and Restorative Justice & Public Safety. His background as Massac County State’s Attorney informs his approach to criminal law committees.

In addition to legislative duties, Windhorst supports a lawsuit challenging the current legislative district maps in Illinois. The suit alleges extreme partisan gerrymandering by Democrats.

"This is a classic case where politicians picked their voters," said Windhorst regarding the lawsuit filed with fellow Republicans and House GOP Leader Tony McCombie.

The lawsuit seeks a special master to redraw district boundaries if successful. "Illinois’ State House District Maps are the byproduct of extreme partisan gerrymandering," commented McCombie during a press conference discussing the litigation effort.

Representative Ryan Spain has introduced a constitutional amendment proposal for fair redistricting in response to these concerns. Meanwhile, Dan Ugaste highlighted how partisan mapping affected election outcomes despite Democratic candidates receiving 55% of votes but securing 66.1% of seats.

On other fronts, Illinois students scored above average in national education assessments according to recent reports, though gaps remain between racial groups post-pandemic learning disruptions.

The state’s job economy continues its shift away from traditional sectors like manufacturing towards professional services concentrated around Chicago. Despite overall employment growth, specific categories saw declines over 2024.

Windhorst operates two district offices in Harrisburg and West Frankfort for constituent services and can be contacted via phone or email.
