City of Mount Carmel City Council met Jan. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Judge brought the City Council meeting to order.

Present on Roll Call: Mayor Joe Judge Commissioners – Eric Ikemire, Tyson Meador Susan Zimmerman

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mayor Judge requested a motion to approve the December 23, 2024 council meeting minutes.

Commissioner Ikemire motioned, and Commissioner Meador seconded, to approve the meeting minutes held on December 23, 2024. All present voted by roll call. Commissioner Meeks is absent. Commissioners Ikemire, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.

VISITORS

No visitors.

MAYOR’S COMMENTS

Mayor Judge stated the city crews had been out all weekend preparing for and clearing the snow. He thanked them for their outstanding efforts in removing it. He also thanked the community for staying off the roads and making cleaning things easier.

Mayor Judge stated the airport should be opened back up later today or first thing in the morning.

Mayor Judge expressed his appreciation for the communication and efforts with Dr. Bleyer, WEMA, and the American Red Cross.

Mayor Judge thanked WEMA and the health department for their efforts in setting up warming stations.

COMMISSIONER REPORTS:

COMMISSIONER TYSON MEADOR – STREETS, CEMETERIES AND PARKS

Commissioner Meador thanked the crews for their efforts in cleaning the streets. He received a phone call praising his department for their great job. The street department has also kept up on general maintenance and took down the Christmas trees.

COMMISSIONER ERIC IKEMIRE – FINANCE AND SENIOR CITIZENS

Commissioner Ikemire – no report. He did thank the crews and Mt. Carmel Public Utility for their excellent work.

COMMISSIONER TOM MEEKS – WATER AND SEWER

Commissioner Meeks is absent.

COMMISSIONER SUSAN ZIMMERMAN – FIRE, HEALTH & SAFETY, GARBAGE, CITY HALL AND CIVIL DEFENSE

Commissioner Zimmerman reported that the fire department had received 16 calls in the last two weeks. She reminded the city not to plug electric heaters into extension cords or power strips.

Commissioner Zimmerman reported that garbage will be doing its best to pick up trash starting tomorrow.

CITY ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – RYAN TURNER

City Administrative Assistant Ryan Turner is absent.

CITY ATTORNEY – DEREK MCCULLOUGH

City Attorney McCullough is absent.

AIRPORT MANAGER – LUIS GARCIA

Airport Manager Garica is absent.

POLICE CHIEF – MIKE MCWILLIAMS

Police Chief McWilliams stated that local first responder entities met via Zoom over the last few days. He stated this had improved response times during the storm, and he found all groups were with great efficiency.

FIRE CHIEF – FRANCIS SPETH

Fire Chief Speth is absent.

PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR – MIKE GIDCUMB

Public Works Director Gidcumb was complimentary of all public works and other departments within the city coming together to prepare for and clean up the snow. They worked all weekend and are continuing to work through the week.

WABASH COUNTY E.M.A.

Wabash County E.M.A. is absent.

BUSINESS MOTIONS

Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Ikemire seconded, to approve the consent agenda. All present voted by roll call. Commissioner Meeks is absent. Commissioners Ikemire, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.

Commissioner Meador motioned, and Commissioner Zimmerman seconded, to adjourn today's meeting. All present voted Aye by voice vote.

The meeting adjourned at 4:10 pm.
