Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met Jan. 14.

CALL TO ORDER

On January 14, 2025 at 6:37 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

Roll Call

Members Present: Adina Hoover, Jessica Radogno, Carlos Hevia, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover,

Whitney Rogers arrived at 7:00 p.m.

Members Absent: Angela Stekete

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann , and the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance

President Hoover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Conover, to enter closed session to discuss Personnel Issues, Student Discipline, and Sale or Lease of Real Property.

Ayes: Marren, Conover, Radogno, Hevia, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried

The Board entered closed session at 6:39 p.m.

Whitney Rogers entered the meeting at 7:00 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:11 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

December 17, 2024

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the December 17, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Marren, Conover, Radogno, Hevia, Hoover, Rogers Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

December 17, 2024 - Closed

Motion by Ms. Rogers, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the December 17, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Marren, Conover, Radogno, Hevia, Hoover, Rogers Nays: None

Motion Carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Public comment given by WHS CAPAOW Club members Zoe Abington and Riyah Varghese, and Leader Jeremy Bautista; Public comment was also given by Charlie Johnson..

CONSENT AGENDA

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the consent agenda as presented:

1. Personnel Recommendations: There are no recommendations at this time.

2. Approval of Additional December 2024 Expenditure Report

Ayes: Conover, Rogers, Radogno, Hevia, Hoover, Marren Nays: None.

Motion carried.

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION

The Board will start with the Location Committee Recap and then move on to Budget Staffing Timeline.

Location Committee Recap

Community members and staff met on January 7, 2025 to discuss the two options for a location of a new elementary school. Dr. Laure Kosey facilitated the meeting and worked with the group using SWOC, (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Challenges). The group discussed SWOC for a potential location at 601 Oakmont and property along Blackhawk Drive. Dr. Kosey shared with the Board there was strong support for the Blackhawk location and in a vote, it was 22 for Blackhawk, 1 for 601 Oakmont, and 3 votes in the middle or not for either location. Dr. Kosey let the Board know there were strong concerns from the committee regarding the traffic and the cost. The Board will discuss the location at the January 28, 2025, CUSD 201 Board meeting.

Budget Staffing Timeline

The Budget Staffing Timeline is being presented to the Board for their review. This schedule is presented each year and gives a breakdown of the timeline from the start of the calendar year to submission of the budget to the county.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Communication

Superintendent Baldermann will be hosting an all district staff meeting on January 15, 2025, to review the first semester and all the successes. Dr. Braun will be presenting at the February 11, 2025, meeting on the progress of the schools in the District. The buildings are actively tracking attendance and with the support of everyone absenteeism is down.

BOARD REPORTS

Dr. Adina Hoover has earned the 2024 Thomas Lay Burroughs Award.She was recognized in Springfield on December 18, 2024.

Motion Carried

The Board entered closed session at 7:43 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 8:33 p.m.

None at this time.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Marren, to adjourn the January 14, 2025, regular meeting of the Board of Education at 8:33 p.m.

Motion unanimously passed.
