State Representative Patrick Windhorst has called for urgent reforms in Illinois following the conviction of former House Speaker Mike Madigan on ten counts related to corruption. Windhorst emphasized the need for comprehensive ethics reforms, stating, "Hopefully, this guilty verdict will be the wake-up call House Democrats will actually pay attention to and finally move on badly-needed ethics and corruption reforms."

Windhorst also voiced strong opposition to a new bill regulating homeschool families in Illinois. He criticized HB 2827 for imposing burdensome regulations on these families, saying, "I have received a multitude of calls and messages from homeschool families throughout the state, concerned that HB 2827 places unfair and cumbersome new regulatory burdens on them as they try to work to educate their children."

The trial of Michael J. Madigan concluded with his conviction on charges including bribery conspiracy and wire fraud. The jury's decision followed a lengthy deliberation process after closing arguments ended in January 2025. Madigan was accused of engaging in corrupt practices involving companies like ComEd and AT&T Illinois.

Timothy Blair from the Illinois General Assembly Retirement System confirmed that Madigan's pension payments would cease following his conviction but noted he would still receive his February check due to processing timelines.
