State Senator Dale Fowler | Illinois State Senator
State Senator Dale Fowler of Harrisburg has called on Governor JB Pritzker to adjust his budget priorities, urging the passage of a spending plan that does not place a burden on Illinois families. This statement comes in response to the Governor's annual Budget Address delivered to a joint session of legislators on February 19.
Governor Pritzker announced a $55.4 billion spending plan, marking the largest budget in the state's history and reflecting a 37 percent increase since his administration began in 2019.
Senator Fowler expressed concern over this level of expenditure, stating, "We cannot sustain this level of spending for an irresponsible agenda built on the backs of Illinoisans who are struggling to make ends meet." He emphasized the need for a budget that aligns with the values and needs of working families in Illinois. "I remain hopeful that all lawmakers will work together this year to produce a responsible budget that prioritizes Illinoisans," he added.
As discussions around the legislative budget commence, Senator Fowler has indicated his willingness to collaborate with colleagues across party lines. He aims to contribute to crafting a balanced budget that includes structural reforms intended to enhance economic growth and job creation.
The fiscal year 2026 is set to begin on July 1, 2025, and conclude on June 30, 2026.
