With the centennial of the historic Illinois Route 66 on the horizon, the Illinois Senate has taken steps to honor this iconic roadway. A resolution has been adopted, marking 2026 as the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Year.

Senate Joint Resolution 12 notes Illinois' pivotal role in the history of Route 66, being the first state to completely pave the highway and also serving as its starting point.

State Senator Dale Fowler of Harrisburg expressed, “Route 66 is more than just a road, it is a symbol of American freedom and exploration and rightfully deserves recognition.”

The resolution is now set to proceed to the House of Representatives for further review.
