City of Mount Carmel City Council met May 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Commissioner Ikemire brought the meeting to order.

Present on Roll Call: Commissioners – Tom Meeks, Eric Ikemire, Tyson Meador, Susan Zimmerman Mayor Judge-Absent

Also Present: City Administrative Assistant Ryan Turner

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Ikemire requested a motion to approve the minutes from the May 12, 2025, council meeting.

Commissioner Meeks motioned, and Commissioner Zimmerman seconded, to approve the May 12, 2025, meeting minutes. All present voted by roll call. Commissioners Meeks, Ikemire, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.

VISITORS

Katie Iles asked the council to approve a Butterfly 5k walk-run event on June 7, 2025. Ms. Iles advised that the event supports those with breast cancer and is sanctioned by the Wabash County Health Department. The council approved her request but needed to get with City Clerk Turner to discuss the details, which she agreed to.

MAYOR’S COMMENTS

COMMISSIONER REPORTS:

COMMISSIONER TYSON MEADOR – STREETS, CEMETERIES, AND PARKS

Commissioner Meador reported that crews have been busy with general road maintenance, performing usual tasks, and mowing.

COMMISSIONER ERIC IKEMIRE – FINANCE AND SENIOR CITIZENS

Commissioner Ikemire reported that most of the receipts collected during this period were from the State Income tax and that the City was in good financial standing.

COMMISSIONER TOM MEEKS – WATER AND SEWER

Commissioner Meeks stated that the water/sewer maintenance crew has been busy fixing storm sewers and clearing sewer lines. It has been business as usual.

COMMISSIONER SUSAN ZIMMERMAN – FIRE, HEALTH & SAFETY, GARBAGE, CITY HALL, AND CIVIL DEFENSE

Commissioner Zimmerman reported the total call-outs for the Mt. Carmel Fire Department.

CITY ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – RYAN TURNER

City Administrative Assistant Turner asked the council to approve City Ordinance 2127. This ordinance would enable a business to construct an addition to a commercial business in an R-2 residential zone. It was also requested that a second reading be waived, since the city zoning board

unanimously approved the application by Health Insurance Associates. Commissioner Meeks motioned, and Commissioner Zimmerman seconded, to approve Ordinance 2127.

CITY ATTORNEY – DEREK MCCULLOUGH

City Attorney McCullough – no report (absent).

AIRPORT MANAGER – LUIS GARCIA

Airport Manager Garcia reported that he has been mowing and maintaining the equipment at the airport.

POLICE CHIEF – MIKE MCWILLIAMS

Absent.

FIRE CHIEF – FRANCIS SPETH

Fire Chief Speth reported minimal callouts, but training continues at the fire station.

PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR – MIKE GIDCUMB

Public Works Director Gidcumb is absent.

WABASH COUNTY E.M.A.

Wabash County E.M.A. is absent.

BUSINESS MOTIONS

Commissioner Meador motioned, and Commissioner Zimmerman seconded, to approve the consent agenda. All present voted by roll call. Commissioners Meeks, Ikemire, Meador, and Zimmerman voted aye.

Commissioner Zimmerman motioned, and Commissioner Meador seconded, to adjourn today's meeting. All present voted Aye by voice vote.

The meeting adjourned at 4:07 pm.
