State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) is inviting families in his district to participate in a Veterans Day display at the Illinois Capitol Rotunda. The event, titled “Honoring All Who Served,” will feature photos and personal stories of Illinois veterans from October 28 through November 13.
“This tribute wall is a small way to honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our nation, giving those who stop by a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans,” said Senator Fowler. “I have always had a deep respect for our veteran community and I would encourage those throughout the 59th District to submit a photo and share a veteran’s story to be honored and remembered. These are our nation’s heroes and they deserve to have their legacies live on.”
Families are asked to send in a photo along with a short written account—up to 250 words—about their veteran. Submissions should include the veteran’s name, military branch, and the conflict or era during which they served. Military photographs are welcome but not required.
The deadline for submissions is November 8, 2024. Materials can be emailed to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov or mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 110 D Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For further information, families can call (217) 782-1154.
“Every story added to this display is a lesson in courage for the next generation,” Sen. Fowler added. “Please help us honor your loved one’s service at the heart of our state.”
Fowler has represented Illinois’ 59th Senate District since his election in 2017, succeeding Gary Forby as senator.
