State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) appeared on WJPF Morning NewsWatch this week for an interview with host Tom Miller. The conversation covered several topics relevant to the upcoming October Veto Session and local community events.

Windhorst expressed concerns about possible tax increases that may be discussed during the legislative session, including a proposed $1.50 delivery tax intended to support the Chicago Transit Authority. He stated, "I was happy to join Tom Miller on the WJPF Morning NewsWatch today to discuss several topics. As we move closer to the October Veto Session, there is a possibility of a variety of tax increases, including the $1.50 delivery tax, that would be used to bail out the Chicago Transit Authority," Windhorst said. "I will not vote to support ANY tax increases – our citizens are taxed to the hilt as it is."

He also addressed an expected debate over an energy package focused on battery storage, warning that it could result in higher electricity bills for Illinois residents. "A large energy package that will focus on battery storage is likely to be debated during the Veto Session. This legislation, unbelievably, would guarantee higher electricity bills. Our state’s policies on energy have already wrecked family budgets by causing sky-high electricity bills. We need to change course in Illinois instead of doubling down on failure in our energy sector," Windhorst said.

Windhorst discussed his opposition to recently enacted legislation establishing a new State Public Defender’s office, arguing that such measures increase bureaucracy and should remain local matters. "We also discussed recently signed legislation that creates a new State Public Defender’s office. I opposed this measure, as I believe further intervention from the state into what should be local matters only causes more bureaucracy and achieves worse results," he said.

Additionally, Windhorst promoted a free Senior Citizens Health and Wellness Fair taking place at The Hub in Marion from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 23. He noted that several healthcare and senior services organizations would participate and offer various health screenings at no cost. "We also discussed a FREE Senior Citizens Health and Wellness Fair hosted by me, Senator Fowler, and Rep. Jacobs tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23, at The Hub in Marion from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Several health care and senior services professional organizations will be on hand, and a variety of health screenings will be available for free."

Windhorst has served as a Republican member of the Illinois State House since his election in 2023 representing the state's 117th House District after replacing Natalie Phelps Finnie.
