Ted Dabrowski, a candidate for governor of Illinois, articulated his economic vision during a visit to Illinois State University. He said that, if elected, he plans to foster a thriving economy aimed at retaining young talent and reversing the state's trend of outmigration.
According to a press release, Dabrowski engaged with students at Illinois State University to discuss their economic concerns and future prospects in Illinois. He emphasized his commitment to creating an environment that encourages young professionals to remain in the state, viewing this as crucial for countering the current outmigration trend.
In an interview with WGLT’s Eric Stock, Dabrowski criticized the Trust Act signed by Governor Rauner in 2017. He argued that it weakened cooperation between local and federal law enforcement on immigration issues. Dabrowski praised Florida's mandate requiring local authorities to collaborate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), asserting that it prioritizes citizen safety over protecting criminals. He advocated for Illinois to adopt a similar approach to ensure dangerous individuals are swiftly handed over to federal authorities.
During a gathering in Bloomington at Barrel House with business owners and local voters, Dabrowski outlined his plan to reduce government control and high taxes. He argued these factors negatively impact both businesses and individuals. After engaging with residents, Dabrowski expressed optimism about his campaign’s goals, noting shared frustrations regarding taxation and government overreach.
Dabrowski has over three decades of experience in international finance and domestic policy leadership. His career includes 16 years in senior financial roles such as Head of Corporate Banking at Citibank in Poland, where he advised on economic liberalization and managed substantial Treasury portfolios in Poland and Mexico. Upon returning to the U.S., he served as Vice President of Policy at the Illinois Policy Institute before becoming President of Wirepoints, a nonprofit focused on Illinois’ economy and governance. His research has been cited by national media outlets including The Wall Street Journal. Dabrowski holds advanced degrees from prestigious institutions: a master’s in public policy from the University of Chicago, an MBA from the Wharton School, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech.
