State Representative Patrick Windhorst, State Senator Dale Fowler, and State Representative Paul Jacobs have launched a Valentine’s for Seniors Card Drive to encourage community members to create Valentine’s Day cards for seniors in nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the region.
The initiative invites individuals, families, classrooms, churches, and community groups to participate by making cards. The goal is to remind seniors that they are valued members of the community.
“Seniors in our communities deserve to feel remembered and appreciated,” Windhorst said. “These cards help remind them they’re not alone.”
Representative Jacobs highlighted the accessibility of the drive. “This is something families, schools, and community groups can do together,” Jacobs said. “It’s a simple act of kindness that can make a real difference.”
Senator Fowler emphasized the impact of reaching out on Valentine’s Day. “Valentine’s Day is all about showing how much we care for others, and this drive is an easy way to reach out to seniors and show just how much their community cares for them,” he said. “A simple card or note can go a long way in brightening someone’s day and bringing some joy to seniors across the 59th District.”
Cards may be dropped off at several district offices by February 6, 2026:
– Senator Dale Fowler – District Office: 2 North Vine Street, Suite 600, Harrisburg
– Representative Paul Jacobs – District Office: 600 Halfway Road, Suite 103, Marion
– Representative Patrick Windhorst – District Offices: 2 N. Vine Street, Suite 5A, Harrisburg; and 202 E. Clark Street, West Frankfort
Collected cards will be delivered to senior care facilities across the district.
For more information about participating in the card drive or drop-off locations, residents can contact Senator Fowler’s district office at 618-294-8951.
Windhorst was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 117th House District in 2023 after succeeding Natalie Phelps Finnie.
