Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner believes "agriculture is the backbone of our state" — and to show his support for the industry, he attended the recent Summer Conference Awards Ceremony hosted by the Illinois Beef Association (IBA).
"(Agriculture) is one of our most important industries, and we need to give our farmers and cattle producers the tools needed to thrive right here in Illinois," Rauner said. "Regulations shouldn’t weigh you down, and bureaucracy should not hinder your economic growth. We need a competitive economy to further invest and grow farms and businesses right here in Illinois. I am working hard every day to do just that and to make our government more effective and efficient."
Statistics show that one of 17 Illinois jobs are in the food or agriculture sectors. Those sectors are a $120.9 billion annual industry in the state.
The IBA is a non-profit organization that represents the state's cattle industry, much of which is made up of multi-generational family farms.
