Real ropes reaching across the stage will represent “Charlotte’s Web” at 7 p.m. Saturday when Southeastern Illinois College's (SIC) talented troupe presents the famed musical at the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center in Harrisburg.
Guests can purchase tickets at the door or in advance for this one-time-only performance by contacting 618-252-5400, ext. 2486 or 2487, or by calling 618-841-4649. Alternatively, prospective attendees can email boxoffice@sic.edu.
Stage Manager Aaron McRoy, who has overseen approximately 20 shows at the college, promises that the production will likely provide visual intrigue.
“This showing of 'Charlotte’s Web' includes something different -- a rope web to create a more 3D effect than the usual painted or backdrop web,” McRoy said. “This group put the set together in a very short time, and I’m really impressed as to how quickly and how well it has all come together.”
SIC’s stagecraft students, under the direction of Allan Kimball, along with costume and sound specialists, all came to the assistance of the Theater Department to recreate the beloved E.B. White classic, which tells the story of a young girl named Fern who saves her pig Wilbur from the grim fate of livestock with the help of Charlotte, a friendly spider.
