Eldorado Community Unit 4 School District Board of Education met Feb. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board of Education of Eldorado C.U.S.D. #4 met in regular session on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in the board room #219. Board Secretary, Stacy James, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Board members present and answering roll call were: Ron Bradley, Stacy James, Preston Justice and Larry Parks. Absent: David Bartok, Jason Kasiar and Keith Oglesby. Present: Supt. Ryan Hobbs, Rick Cox, Blake Bradley, Billy Tippett, Cody Cusic and Kim Butler, recording secretary. Others: Alumni band members.

Alumni band members addressed the board on the importance of an elementary band instructor. The position has been posted with no applicants at this time.

Keith Oglesby entered the meeting at 7:10 p.m.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve the regular meeting minutes for 1-19-17 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-1-22). Larry Parks seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Superintendent Hobbs gave a legislative update stating that the state owes the school $496,000 for this year.

Keith Oglesby made a motion to approve the January, 2017 Treasurer’s Report (Ref to Doc Reg FF-1- 23). Preston Justice seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Larry Parks made a motion to approve the payment of Unit #4 bills (Ref to Doc Reg FF-1-24). Preston Justice seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve the second reading and adoption of board policies 5:185, 5:190, delete 5:190-AP, 5:190-E1, 5:190-E2, 5:190-E3, 5:250, 5:250-AP, 5:260 and 5:280 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-5-15). Ron Bradley seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Stacy James made a motion to approve the first reading of board policies 6:15, 6:50, 6:60, 6:145, 6:160, 6:170-AP1, 6:170-AP1,E1, 6:170-AP1,E2, 6:170-AP2, 6:170-AP2,E1, 6:210 and 6:340 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-5-16). Preston Justice seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

The board discussed possible tax abatement using 1% sales tax money.

The board agreed to allow Superintendent Hobbs to pursue searching for buses to purchase or lease for the 2017-2018 school year.

Preston Justice made a motion to accept the letter of resignation from T. J. Zurliene as 8th grade boys basketball coach (Ref to Doc Reg FF-4-8). Larry Parks seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve middle school graduation on May 18th and high school graduation on May 19th (Ref to Doc Reg FF-6-16). Larry Parks seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to go into closed session at 7:42 p.m. regarding hiring of district personnel, collective bargaining and student discipline (Expulsion Hearings). Ron Bradley seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

The board came out of closed session at 8:25 p.m.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve closed session minutes as read in closed session. Larry Parks seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Keith Oglesby made a motion to approve a 2 year expulsion effective immediately for student EHS- FY17-1 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-6-17). Preston Justice seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve a 2 year expulsion effective immediately for student EHS- FY17-2 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-6-18). Stacy James seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Keith Oglesby made a motion to approve a 2 year expulsion effective immediately for student EHS- FY17-3 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-6-19). Preston Justice seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve setting Unit 4 bookkeeper, Michelle Bradley, salary at $39,524 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-3-14). Keith Oglesby seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.

Preston Justice made a motion to approve setting Kim Butler’s salary at $37,113 (Ref to Doc Reg FF-3- 15). Keith Oglesby seconded the motion. Roll call vote taken and motion carried. Voting yes: Bradley, James, Justice, Oglesby and Parks. Voting no: None. Absent: Bartok and Kasiar.
