Following the fiscal year’s end June 30, state Sen. Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) remained cautiously optimistic on the chances for a 2018 fiscal year budget solution, he told constituents via his website.
Fowler, who was present in Springfield for the special session convened in an effort to pull together a state budget, said he was “watchfully positive” as he reaffirmed his commitment to the overall goal.
He said he met with 22 school superintendents from the southern portion of the state on June 20 and relayed that the continuing budget stalemate has impacted many school systems, with some leaders conveying critical levels of concern over funding for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.
Fowler has previously championed school systems’ needs. Earlier in June, together with state Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo), he promoted a more equitable school funding plan that would strive to shy away from “picking winners and losers,” according to his website.
Fowler also said that he and Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) co-sponsored a first-time fair for senior citizens on June 27 at the Marion-based HUB Recreation Center, a venue offering fitness and sports activities. Over 20 vendors participated in the occasion with approximately 150 senior citizens enjoying numerous free services provided by the exhibitors.
