City of Metropolis City Council met July 24.

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Alderpersons were present: Alderman Don Canada, Mike Hall, Chad Lewis, Chuck Short, Charles Barfield, Buford McGuire, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell, Mayor McDaniel, City Clerk Jan Adams, and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Aldermen John Taylor, and Darryl Neill were absent.

CITIZENS REQUEST:
Letitia (Tish) Brazell business owner of Mixing-it-Up came before the Council to express her concerns and fears for Metropolis. She is worried about the number of drugs circulating in our town commenting it is out of control. People are stealing private property if it is not bolted down. Bicycles are missing on a daily basis. She questioned if the city was doing enough and what could the residents do to help join together and end this. Chief Masse stated we are constantly making arrests for theft and drugs and want to see these convictions as much you do. We are also applauding our citizens for the tips they provide to make these convictions.
MAYOR’S REPORT:
The Mayor stated the Save the Massac has their Grand Plan Reveal Hometown Celebration this weekend. Gary White will show a film unveiling what the new theater will look like. The festivities will begin at 5 pm and hope all come and show your support. He also stated the uptown bathroom construction is nearly completed.
CORPORATE COUNSEL;
The City Police Department and the County Sheriff Department both provide law enforcement and emergency services to the residents of City and County. Both these agencies having access to the LEADS system, providing law enforcement telecommunications services within their respective jurisdictions and provide back-up to each other. Clear Wave will install the fiber optics.

First Reading on Ordinance Amending Title Vll, Chapter71, Schedule lll (B) and lll (D) Authorizing Traffic Control Device (Chick Street and Jon Street)
The following property will be advertised 3 consecutive weeks accepting sealed bids until August 28th, 2017 and read aloud at City Council that evening.
Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and second by Alderman Buford McGuire to make a motion to seek bids for the sale of property located at 907 Ferry Street;

DEPARTMENT HEADS:
Pris Abell, Parks and Recreation director happily shared the City Pool got a perfect score rating from the state! She added the Splash Park construction will begin as soon as the 2017 season is over (August 12th).
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Moved by Alderman Buford McGuire and second by Alderman Charles Barfield to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills;
