Galatia Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met April 29.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

The organizational meeting and regular meeting of the Galatia Community Unit School District No. 1 Board was held in the boardroom at the Annex. Roll call was taken, and those present were Tim Pribble, Bryan McCabe, B.J. Pigg, Holly Murphy, and Amy Richey. Elaine Jackson and Leslie Ferrell were absent. Five (5) members present and two (2) members absent. Board President, Tim Pribble, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Also present: Superintendent, Shain Crank, HS Principal, Ashley Launius, Assistant Elem Principal James Foster, and Recording Secretary, Michele Hankins.

President Pribble led the Board and attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS:

There were no visitors.

ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO AGENDA:

There were no additions/deletions to the agenda.

Organization Meeting:

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA:

1. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to approve the regular meeting minutes of March 25, 2025. Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried

2. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Murphy to approve the bills and payroll as presented.

3. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to approve the treasurer's report and co- mingled account as presented. Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Recognition of Old Board

Mr. Crank recognized Mrs. Elaine Jackson (8 years and 10 month) and Mrs. Leslie Ferrell (2 years) for serving on the Galatia School Board.

Report County Clerk's Vote Canvas

The reading of the canvas votes was presented by Mr. Shain Crank. The votes were: B.J. Pigg 178, Bryan McCabe 161, and Holly Murphy 171.

4. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to approve the reading of the school board member election vote results (canvas). Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble- aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Oath of Office

Elected board members B.J. Pigg, Bryan McCabe, and Holly Murphy took the Oath of Office.

Roll Call of New Board

Roll call was taken, those present were Tim Pribble, Bryan McCabe, B.J. Pigg, Holly Murphy, and Amy Richey. Five (5) members present.

Appointment of President Pro Tem

Mr. Tim Pribble, President, appointed Mr. Shain Crank to serve as the President Pro Tem.

5. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to appoint Shain Crank as President Pro Tem. Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Reorganization of Board

Nominations for President

6. A nomination was made by McCabe and seconded by Pigg to nominate Tim Pribble as President of the school board for a two-year term. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye. Pribble- abstain. Five (4) ayes and one (1) abstain, motion carried.

Mr. Tim Pribble, President, immediately assumed the office of President.

Board Vice President

7. A nomination was made by Pigg and seconded by Richey to nominate Bryan McCabe as Vice President for a two-year term. Murphy-aye, McCabe-abstain, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Four (4) ayes and one (1) abstain, motion carried.

Board Secretary

8. A nomination was made by McCabe and seconded by Pigg to nominate Holly Murphy as Board Secretary for a two-year term. Murphy-abstain, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Four (4) ayes and one (1) abstain, motion carried.

Board Meeting Dates/Time

9. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Richey to have the board meetings at the Galatia Annex on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m., starting in July 2025. The following board meetings dates have been changed from the fourth Tuesday to a different date:

September 23rd to September 30th, 2025

November 25th to November 18th, 2025

December 23rd to December 16th, 2025

Board Committees

Committees were assigned.

School Board Vacancies

10. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to advertise for two school board member vacancies left by Elaine Jackson in the Tate Township and Leslie Ferrell in the Raleigh Township. The candidate must live in the school district and in one of the following Townships: Tate 7S5E; Long Branch 7S6E; Raleigh 8S6E; Brushy 9S5E; or Corinth 8S4E. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

11. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to enter Executive Session at 7:10 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; matters of student discipline or review executive session minutes. McCabe- aye, Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, and Pigg-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

12. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to end Executive Session at 7:48 p.m. Pigg-aye,

Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

14. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to approve the Executive Session minutes. Murphy-aye, Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

James Foster left the meeting during the executive session.

Separation Agreement

15. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by McCabe to accept a separation agreement as presented with Heidi Davis. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Resignation

16. A motion was made by Richey and seconded by McCabe to accept Maize Eubanks resignation as a high school English teacher at the end of the 2024/2025 school year. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

17. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to accept Chelsea Taylor's resignation as an individual aide at the end of the 2024/2025 school year. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg- aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

18. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to accept Diane Puckett's resignation as a Pre-K aide at the end of the 2024/2025 school year. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

19. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to accept Marsha Hoskins's resignation as an individual aide at the end of the 2024/2025 school year. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Full Time Substitute Teacher

20. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to employ Megan Curtis as a full-time substitute teacher for the 2025/2026 school year, per salary schedule and pending a background check. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH/HS Social Studies Teacher

21. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to employ Rachel Stalorites as a junior high/high school social studies teacher for the 2025/2026 school year, per salary schedule and pending a background check. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

School Counselor

22. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to employ Sarah Prather as a school counselor for the 2025/2026 school year, per salary schedule and pending a background check. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

2025-2026 Coaches

JH Softball Coach

23. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to employ Kara Leverett as the junior high girls' softball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Baseball Coach

24. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to employ Tyler Johnson as the junior high boys' baseball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Cheer Coach

25. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Richey to employ Lindsey McClerren as the junior high cheer coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Boys' Basketball Coach

26. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to employ Elwyn Smith II as the junior high boys' basketball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Murphy- aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Girls' Basketball Coach

27. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to employ Aaron Allen as the junior high girls' basketball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, Pribble-aye, Murphy- aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

JH Girls' Volleyball Coach

28. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Pigg to employ Lorrae Fulkerson as the junior high girls' volleyball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Richey-nay, Pribble-nay, Murphy-abstain, Pigg- aye, and McCabe-aye. Two (2) ayes, two (2) nays, (1) abstain, motion failed.

Post JH Volleyball Coach Position

29. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to post the junior high volleyball coach position for the 2025/2026 school year. Pigg-aye, McCabe-nay, Murphy-abstain, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Three (3) ayes, (1) nay, (1) abstain, motion carried.

Basscats Coach

30. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to employ B. J. Pigg as the Basscats fishing coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Pigg-abstain, and Richey-aye. Four (4) ayes, motion carried.

Trapcats Coach

31. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to employ Matt McLaughlin as the Trapcats trap shooting coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Cross Country Coach

32. A motion was made by Murphy and seconded by Richey to employ Kim Hankins as the cross country coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, and Richey- aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

HS Girls' Volleyball Coach

33. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Pigg to employ Randall Clift as the high school girls' volleyball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

HS Girls' Basketball Coach

34. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Richey to employ Brooke Meylor as the high school girls' basketball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Richey-aye, Pribble-aye Murphy-aye, Pigg- aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

HS Boys' Basketball Coach

35. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to employ Zach Essex as the high school boys' basketball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy- aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

HS Cheer Coach

36. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Murphy to employ Mary Kuczynski as the high school cheer coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, and Pigg-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

HS Softball Coach

37. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Murphy to employ Dani Reynolds as the high school softball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Murphy-aye, Pigg-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried

HS Baseball Coach

38. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by Murphy to employ Tyler Johnson as the high school baseball coach for the 2025/2026 school year. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

PRINCIPAL REPORT:

Graduation: Graduation will be May 16th, 2025. Junior High will begin at 6:00 p.m. and High School will begin at 7:00 p.m.

EdWell: Mrs. Launius attended a workshop provided by EdWell. EdWell has gone through the Department of Labor to get teaching as an approved field for apprenticeship programs. This is something that we will look into for the future.

Master Schedule: There will be some teacher placements for next year. As soon as we have it completed Mrs. Douglass can finish the master schedule.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT:

Generators: Mr. Crank is inquiring about getting a generator for the elementary school and one for the high school kitchen. The quote has not came in yet.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRANSPORTATION: N/A

BUILDING & GROUNDS REPORT: N/A

ATHLETICS:

Baseball: The boy's baseball teams' current record to date is 10-6. Senior recognition is not scheduled. Hopefully, it will be on either May 7th or 8th with a backup date of May 13th.

Softball: The girls' softball teams' current record to date is 9-5. Senior recognition is scheduled for the home game on May 15th.

Basscats: The Basscats are preparing the IHSA state fishing series. The regional tournament on May 15th is at Rend Lake. Galatia Basscats will be hosting the sectional tournament on May 22nd at Lake of Egypt.

Sports Awards Night: Junior high and high school sports awards night will be held on May 1st. The junior high awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the high school awards to follow at 7:00 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS:

Field Trips

39. A motion was made by Pigg and seconded by McCabe to approve the following field trips:

Pre-K field trip at Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, IN, on May 9th, 2025.

FFA State Ag Mechanics Contest at Illinois Central College, Peoria, IL. Five senior boys with a possible overnight stay.

Murphy-aye, McCabe-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

40. A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Richey to approve purchase of an Evaluwise subscription for a three year period for a cost of $2,304.75. McCabe-aye, Murphy-aye, Richey-aye, Pigg-aye, and Pribble-aye. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.

Amended Budget Hearing Date

41. A motion was made by Pribble and seconded by Richey to set the amended budget hearing date for June 24, 2025. Pribble-aye, Pigg-aye, Richey-aye, Murphy-aye, and McCabe-aye. Five (5) ayes,
