Massac County Unit School District #1 Board of Education met August 14.

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of Massac County Unit School District #1 was called to order in the Superintendent’s Office, located at 401 Metropolis Street, Metropolis, IL 62960, at 4:00 PM by Board President, Mr. Mark Souders.
Roll call:
Present: Jeff Brugger
Don Koch Jennifer Larrison Kathy Rushing Larry Sommer Mark Souders Bobette Steele
Also Present: Jason Hayes, MCHS Principal
Lisa Monkman, Secretary to the Board of Education MCEA Representatives News Media Community Members
With a motion by Koch and a second by Rushing the Board voted to go to closed session to consider information relative to employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, collective negotiating matters between employers and their employees or representatives; to discuss litigation – probable, imminent, pending or filed. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
At 4:35 PM the Board returned to open session.
Public Comments – William Wessel, question concerning whether the Board would be hiring a Unity 5th Grade Teacher.
Superintendent’s Report: No Budget, the Senate voted to override the Governor’s AV Sunday. The House reconvenes Wednesday. We will be watching closely.

Action from Executive Session: With a motion from Steele and a second from Brugger the Board voted to accept the resignation of Aerial Ford, MES Special Education. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
With a motion from Rushing and a second from Larrison the Board voted to hire JoEllen Sullivan, MCHS Spanish. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
Special Meeting Minutes August 14, 2017
With a motion from Rushing and a second from Koch the Board voted to hire Luther Conwell, MCHS Evening Custodian. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
With a motion from Rushing and a second from Sommer the Board voted to hire JoEllen Sullivan, MCHS Spanish Club Sponsor. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
With a motion from Rushing and a second from Brugger the Board voted to hire Sarah Wessel, Unity 5th Grade for the one (1) year leave of absence. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes.
The Board acknowledged the transfer of Kortney Kennedy to MES/Jr. High Art.
At 4:43 PM with a motion from Steele and a second from Koch the Board voted to adjourn. Roll call: Brugger, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Sommer, Steele and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.
