City of Albion City Council met January 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Albion City Council met in regular session on Jan 15, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Albion City Hall. Mayor John Henze called the meeting to order and led Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Present- Pat Hemming, Eric Eirikson, Eric Schmidt, Kim Dostal, and Jordan Hinkle

Schmidt moved to approve the agenda and Hemming seconded it. Motion passed 5-0

Dostal moved to approve the consent agenda and was seconded by Schmidt. The consent agenda consisted of regular minutes from Dec 18, 2017, approval claims for payment, and financial reports. Motion passed 5-0.

Deputy Dean from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department gave the December report.

Eric Schmidt for public safety committee stated that Marshall County 911 Communication Board and Local Emergency Management voted and passed their 28E agreement.

Chief Evan McRill for the Albion Fire Department reported the Annual Fire Fighters Foundation meeting is comping up. The FD is getting bids for their building expansion and hoped that they might get help financially from the city. The FD added Shelley Tuttle on as a fire fighter she will be taking classes.

Doug Loffgren for the EMS department stated the EMS dept would help with finances with the addition of the FD.

Rhonda Guy absent, Pat Hemming read the water/wastewater report. Temperatures have been too cold to allow for flow meter testing and calibration.

Albion Librarian Julia Ohrt, stated that she submitted Community Foundation Grant 1/15/18 and gave the attendance numbers for Dec 2017

Jordan Hinkle for parks & rec asked the council to look into providing a safety class for the 4-wheelers-atv riders in town. Info was given to P&R dept regarding IDNR Tree Inventories and Plans. Mr. Hinkle was given the Oath of Office and accepted as a council member.

Eric Eirikson gave the street report. Stating that he has been driving around the city looking for necessary repairs for the upcoming summer months. The plow on city truck was repaired and reinforce welded. The orange plow truck is under repair: pump, sander, and wing arm were not working properly. Two loads of sand/salt mixture have been used thus far.

City Maintenance, Doug Loffgren gave his report stating that a 4” sewer line was plugged and broke pumps and back flow valves. This mainly due to the flushing of baby/cleansing wipes. The Council urges the community to stop flushing these items. Since the city no longer has a back-up pump the council advised to Mr. Loffgren to get one built.

Hemming approved and Dostal seconded raising the City’s credit card limit from $500 to $1000. Motion passed 5-0.

During discussion the council thought it would not be necessary to obtain a performance bond for the ACC demolition. The Council instead would like to see references from all bidders.

A public commit in regards to the storage of the items that are contained currently in the ACC & Senior Center, a storage trailer is a possibility, once the demolition begins.

Clerk, Jody Wallen, reminded the council committees to get their budgets turned in.

Schmidt motioned and Hemming seconded the adjournment of the meeting at 7:31pm. Motion passed 5-0.
