Patrick Windhorst wants the residents of the 118th House District to remember what makes their community so special to them.
“This is southern Illinois; our home,” Windhorst reminds voters in a Facebook video touting his campaign. “Right now, our home is in crisis. Businesses are closing, our schools are underfunded and the next generation is looking at a future different from our own. Government has let us down. We are getting taxed out of our home, and folks are fleeing across the river to places with more opportunities.”
Windhorst, a Metropolis Republican facing Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Elizabethtown) in November’s general election in the 118th District, thinks his platform of fiscal responsibility and property tax reform could made a difference.
“Southern Illinois is home to hardworking people, fertile farmland and is blessed with magnificent natural resources,” Windhorst says in the video. “We have much to be proud of; we have faced many challenges but we have preserved. We have drawn strength from our community. Our history shows us we can come together and meet the challenges of today.”
Windhorst argues he’s prepared and ready to make the kinds of tough decisions others seek to shy away from.
“I’m running for state representative because we have to make change,” he said. “Southern Illinois is hurting; we have to do something different. Our leaders aren’t willing to make the tough choices we have to make, but I will. I will fight for us.”
The 118th District includes parts or all of Alexander, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline and Union counties.
