Massac County State’s Attorney Patrick Windhorst was among the list of notable speakers recently taking part in a Prevent Child Abuse Illinois event.

With April officially Child Abuse Prevention Month, Windhorst was on hand for an event at the Superman Statue at 1 Superman Square in Metropolis. He later took to Facebook to thank some of the organizers for bringing further attention to such a critical issue.

“Thank you to Brittney Hale from Prevent Child Abuse Illinois for organizing yesterday’s event in Massac County,” he posted. “Thanks also to Tina Martin and Paige Shearer from Massac County Mental Health and Joe Elliott from Family Counseling Center for speaking at the event. It was an honor to be asked to present as well. If you suspect a child has been the victim of abuse, please call 800-25-ABUSE.”

State Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Elizabethtown)

A Metropolis Republican, Windhorst is now running against state Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Elizabethtown) in November’s general election for the 118th House District. He has shaped his campaign around the issues of fiscal responsibility and property tax reform.

“Southern Illinois is home to hardworking people, fertile farmland and is blessed with magnificent natural resources,” he previously said in a video posted on social media. “We have much to be proud of; we have faced many challenges, but we have preserved. We have drawn strength from our community. Our history shows us we can come together and meet the challenges of today.”

The 118th House District includes all or parts of Alexander, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline and Union counties.
