Big Mound Township awarded waterline grant

Money 07

Big Mound Township will use a $111,018 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to install new rural waterlines in residential areas, the DCEO said Thursday.

The state agency gave out more than $14.5 million in federal funds through Community Development Block Grants, with 36 communities in 29 counties receiving grants for various infrastructure projects.

The city of Carmi also received a grant for $90,387, which will be used to build a new lift station and replace sewer lines.

“Public infrastructure is important not only for the day-to-day function of Illinoisans, but to bolster growth and economic development within a community,” Gov. Bruce Rauner said in a news release. “These grant dollars will be used for projects such as water, sanitary and sewer system improvements that will greatly support our low-income communities and attract more opportunities for residents.”
