Fairfield FD responds to 25 fires in 2017

Fairfield Fire Department responded to 49 calls in 2017 - 25.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Fairfield included 25 fires - 16 structure fires, two vehicle fires and seven other fires.

In all, the department saw $39,850 in fire loss - or about $1,594 per fire.

The department also received 24 false calls, including two malicious calls and 22 other false calls.

The Fairfield Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $117,788 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,061 for every fire in 2016.
