Saline County voted for one referendum and rejected another on Nov. 6.
Voters approved a referendum calling for a decision on whether the Illinois General Assembly should amend the state constitution to ban the implementation of a statewide 1 percent property tax increase. With 100 percent of the votes counted, 6,799 votes were in favor and 2,519 were against.
Another referendum—"To pay for public safety purposes, shall Saline County be authorized to increase the rate its Saline County Public Safety sales tax from .75 to 1.50 percent?"—was shot down. With 100 percent of the votes counted, Saline County Public Safety Sales Tax Increase Proposition had 1,558 votes in favor and 7,925 against.
