Carmi Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.
We have became aware of a couple of instances lately of counterfeit bills being passed at local banks and businesses. Both were $20 bills being passed.
We are continuing to investigate these events. Businesses are urged to use their counterfeit marker pens and look closely at all bills being passed. Other towns in this area have seen an increase in these bills being passed as well.
Please notify us in the event you receive any of these bills.
