The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348 met in Special Session on Monday, October 28, 2019 in the library at Mt. Carmel Elementary School.
President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. Attending in addition to the secretary were Kyle Peach, Neil Earnest, Theresa Hocking, Jared Alka, Ryan Peter, and Tim Schuler.
Others present were Superintendent Chuck Bleyer, Jake Newkirk, Tyler Buss, Amanda Banks-parent, and Susie Wood –Wabash County resident.
Closed Session
At 7:01 p.m., Peter moved to enter into Executive Session pursuant to Section 2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “Student discipline.” The motion was seconded by Jared Alka. All present voted aye. Motion Carried.
Open Session
Hocking motioned to return to Open Session at 7:11 p.m. and the motion was seconded by Peter. All present voted aye. Motion Carried.
Closed Minutes Approved
A motion to approve the minutes of the closed session as read in closed session was made by Peach and seconded by Jared Alka. All present voted aye. Motion Carried.
Student Discipline
Jared Alka motioned to approve the recommendation of expulsion of Student (BW) not to exceed (2) years for violating Section III.A.9.12 of the District Governing Student Conduct as found in the Student Handbook of the District, however; the District will give Student (BW) access to classes at the Norris City, IL Annex in order to allow the student to continue their educational process. After (1) year, the student will be re-evaluated to determine the student’s placement going forward. The motion was seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted aye. Motion Carried.
Adjournment
A motion to adjourn was made by Peter and seconded by Jared Alka. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
