Chicago (48,603 cases) and Cook County (34,668 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,305, while Cook County recorded 1,705 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,079,182, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,194 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 61,177 were male and 65,526 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,302, while female deaths stood at 2,709.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,631 Asians, 2,631 whites, 1,728 African-Americans, 1,192 Hispanics, and 185 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
