Chicago (48,742 cases) and Cook County (34,843 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,314, while Cook County recorded 1,739 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,100,002, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,282 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 61,463 were male and 65,855 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,332, while female deaths stood at 2,756.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,676 Asians, 2,676 whites, 1,746 African-Americans, 1,204 Hispanics, and 184 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
