Chicago (49,101 cases) and Cook County (35,148 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,369, while Cook County recorded 1,793 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,147,101, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,473 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 62,104 were male and 66,553 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,428, while female deaths stood at 2,824.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,753 Asians, 2,753 whites, 1,774 African-Americans, 1,248 Hispanics, and 190 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
